Moving forward, business development director Larry Kuperman maintains that two extra years of development will not put Nightdive in financial constraints, Not too long after the Kickstarter campaign, Nightdive switched from Unity to Unreal Engine even after releasing a demo of the remastered game on Unity. We understood based on the backer feedback, especially, that we weren't going in the right direction with the game, what we promised to them. That's what really caused the shift in what we're doing now, which is going back to what we'd established and represented with the Unity demo. A direct reboot of the original System Shock was not what they were creating. Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick stated, It was the backers of the Kickstarter campaign that convinced Nightdive that the remake was headed in the wrong direction. The successful campaign raised $1.3 million backed by over 21,000 people. Nightdive created a Kickstarter campaign in June 2016 to give players a "faithful reboot" of the original 1994 game.
